The "Finnster, et al."

Today Finn and I laid out of church. We have been instructed by Finn's physicians to make sure that he doesn't get sick. In order to keep Finn germ free we decided it was best to keep him away from the nursery for obvious reasons. We got up at about 6:30 this morning. I took Finn downstairs and he immediately started playing. He was most interested in his wooden spoon. Finn spent the rest of the morning sitting in the floor watching me clean. After lunch, Finn and I cozied up on the couch and took a nice long nap. Then we went to the Begley's to make homemade pizzas for Tommy's going away dinner. When we got back home we all sat together on the couch and watched the a new mini series on the Discovery channel about American history. It was great day. Now, we are gearing up to go VCH to meet with Finn's surgical team. In other news . . . Over the past few days I have noticed that Finn is starting to become a little " ham ." As such it is getting harde...

The main reason for posting this picture is to show off Finn's two bottom teeth. He refuses to let me see those teeth much less get a picture of them. But as always Mama is quite "trixy" and was able to steal a picture. When I was a little girl, I had a very healthy fear of the "wooden spoon." I knew that if I misbehaved at church, school or in public I would earn some one-on-one time with the spoon. This week Finn was introduced to the spoon, however, his reaction was quite different. Instead of shuttering at the very sight of the spoon, Finn reaches for it. The spoon has quickly become one of Finn's favorite toys. Today we sat in the living room floor and played with the spoon for a while. He was so excited about that spoon. One thing that Finn really likes to do is roll his wrist around in circles. Green is definitely Finn's color! Last night Chelsea and I threw a surprise birthday party for Michael and James. Finn was supposed to be in bed before the party started, but he was too excited to sleep. He spent most of the party playing in the floor with Macey . Watching Finn interact with Macey has given me a good idea of how he will behave as a preschooler. Even at 7 months old Finn did not want to share his toys. Everything that Macey tried to play with Finn would attempt to take away. Today Michael's birthday present arrived in the mail. It was a desktop computer and it came in a big box. Finn loved in the box. Yesterday was a hard day. Finn is teething pretty badly so he is very restless and very fussy. We haven't been able to put him down all day. When we finally got him comfortable enough to put him in the floor to play, we weren't able to walk away. Today I woke up early. I had to be in court at 8:00 so I got up an hour earlier than normal. I was hoping that Finn would sleep until at least 6:00 so that I could work out, shower and pump before feeding him. At 7:00 I went in his room to check on him. Upon peering into the crib I discovered why Finn was sleeping so soundly . . . . . . yep, my boy is side sleeper. Today was also Finn's first unofficial career day, or in other words he went to court with his Mama. Upon arriving at the courthouse Finn got to go through the metal detector. The officer at the metal detector took him from me while I went through. He said it was a safety precaution, I think he just wanted to hold Finn. Next we went up to the courtroom. There were several attorneys sitting in the circuit court courtroom. Their faces were hilarious when I walked in with the Finnster . I told everyone he was my paralegal. Today Finn took a big bath - meaning that I ran the water all the way up to his underarms. He loved playing the deep bath water. He also pulled himself up on the side of the tub. He has never pulled up on anything. My theory is that it is easy for him to pull that big body up when he is in the water. You now how you can left heavy things with ease in the pool - same idea. Once Finn got up it wasn't long before he started the long and arduous process of sitting back down. I will provide the play by play. Here we see that Finn is standing straight up. He doesn't look tired and he is clearly proud of himself. Now, in this picture we see that Finn, while still enjoying his new talent, is starting to slide back down. Now this picture indicates that Finn is starting to tire. Note the tongue hanging out of his mouth and the smile has left his face. Nevertheless, he his hanging in there. Today Finn met his first, and hopefully only, plastic surgeon Dr. Kelly. Dr. Kelly is the head of pediatric plastics at Vanderbilt. During our meeting with Dr. Kelly he gave us an overview of the procedure. I will provide my "captive audience" with the same overview. No, I am not all self-consumed; just trying to lighten the mood. Finn will be going in for surgery on Tuesday, April 27th at 6:00 a.m. (This is also Michael's 29th Birthday!) Thankfully Finn is the first surgery of the day. After getting checked in Finn's entire head will be shaved. I made sure that they were going to shave it all. I was mildly concerned that they would only shave the top leaving all the bushy side hair. Finn would really look like a little old man then. As for the surgical procedure Dr. Kelly explained that he will cut Finn from ear to ear across the top of his head. He will then take a small surgical saw and cut along the sagittal suture. Today Finn and I went to Sparta. Kara was in from Washington state so we packed up for a visit. While the purpose of the trip was to hangout with family, the trip turned into a huge photo shoot. Upon arriving in Sparta we stopped by Aunt Laura's house - this gave Finn and Cooper the chance to get reacquainted. Next we went to eat some mexican food with Granny, Papa, Brian, Johnny, Megan, Kara, Laura, Nana, Em and Coop. Finn didn't really want to sit in the high chair so I brought in his booster seat. Finn certainly does not travel light. Finn also ate Mexican food for the first time. He had a bite of beans and little sour cream. Notice that Finn has his tongue out in this picture. Since getting some teeth this has become is new favorite pastime. After lunch all the grown girls and little boys took a picture together. FYI Granny Martha refused to be in the picture.
