Finn's First Bonfire (Saturday, November 14, 2009)

Image
This morning Finn woke up at 5:00 a.m. Dad and Gina got him out of his crib and played with him until around 7:00. Dad said that Finn was in a good mood the entire time. I learned later that Finn had his first sip of Sundrop . Dad would dip his finger in the Sundrop and give it to Finn. If Finn becomes an addict I can honestly say that I had nothing to do with it :) At around 7:00 they woke me and Michael up and we went to IHOP for breakfast where I had the stuffed French Toast with blueberries. Michael was pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to eat it - but he completely under estimated the fact that I am half "Vaughn" and we Vaughns can eat. I was a little disappointed because it was supposed to be shaped like a football with laces on it and instead it was shaped like a scone. Otherwise, it was delicious. After breakfast Regina and Micah stopped by. Michael and I kept Micah for a few hours while Regina was teaching at a LifeWay event. We had such a good time with Mi...

Mama is gonna be okay after all.

Today Michael and I went to a CLE downtown. It was really nice to get dressed and go to town. We met Brandon and Chase at SATCO for lunch before the CLE began. At the CLE I ran into David from my office and we started talking a bit about some of our cases. Today made me realize that I am excited about returning to work. For the first few weeks after Finn was born I dreaded going back to work. Just thinking about leaving Finn and going back to the office made me feel sick. Over the last few weeks that feeling of impending doom has subsided and I am starting to itch to go back. While it is hard to leave him for hours at a time, it makes it that much better when I get home. All the way home from Nashville I couldn't hardly contain my excitement - I couldn't wait to see Finn. I would compare it to the excitement you feel on Christmas Eve. Hopefully I will get that feeling everyday after I go back to work. I know that I will cry when that day finally gets here, so I am writing ...

Mr. Congeniality

Well, I haven't blogged in a while. Reason being I have been redecorating my bedroom. Every free moment I have had has gone to sanding, priming, painting and preparing for the crown molding. Since I have spent my free time working, I have had little time to blog. As such I am going to sum Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday up in one blog. This has been particularly hard week because Mr. Finn has been exceptionally needy. Tuesday was an especially hard day. I think that we spent the whole day rocking. Every time I put him down he screamed - when I would pick him back up he would smile and laugh. And when I say smile I really mean that he would grin from ear to ear and squeal in delight. He is the happiest little baby I have ever seen. Finn has become so much fun to be around. He usually wakes up from his naps in a pretty good mood now. When he wakes up in the middle of the night he still cries to get my attention, but when I look in on him over the crib, he gets the biggest grin on hi...

The Lone Tear (October 9, 2009)

Image
Today Finn cried his very first tear. I was in the kitchen cleaning up after breakfast and Finn was rocking in his swing. After a few minutes he began to fuss. Gradually the fussing became louder and longer. I decided to go on with cleaning the kitchen. I had just fed, burped and changed him so I knew that he was okay. After I had finished cleaning I went over to pick Finn up. When I got over to him I noticed a big, huge tear running down the side of his face. I was heart broken. When I picked him up he immediately quit crying- all he wanted was some attention. After seeing the tear I decided to spend the rest of the day giving my full attention to Finn. We sat upstairs in my new bedroom and played on the bed. Surprizingly he only took a short nap all day. He was pretty exhausted by the time I got him into bed tonight (as so was I). Because he was so tired he slept right through his 1:00ish feeding and I got to sleep, uninterupted, for six whole hours.

Happy Birthday Granny Martha and Caleb

Today MJ, Coop, Finn and I packed up the car and went to Sparta for Granny Martha and Caleb's birthday. At this party Finn was reacquainted with his all of his great aunts and uncles. He also got to look at jets with this cousin Rex. Rex taught him all about the different airplanes. After leaving the party, Finn and Coop settled in for a long car trip back to Nashville. Coop seemed to have a pleasant car ride home - Finn. on the other hand cried the entire last leg of the trip. When we got home Finn watched the Titan's game with Daddy and Uncle David (Michaelput his Bumbo on the couch in between him and David). One time when the Titan's scored David started yelling and it apparently scared Finn to death. I say apparently because I was upstairs pumping. Just call me "moo"ma.

Bored to tears

Today Mom and I painted my bedroom. Its blue! I love it! I love to paint, but I have never painted with a baby in the house. In order to keep him away from the paint fumes I put him in his bedroom and closed the door. He slept pretty soundly for about two hours. After he woke up I took him down stairs and put him in his swing were he slept two more hours. I was impressed that he gave us so much time to paint. However, when he woke up he was ready for some attention. He was really bored with sitting around by himself. Luckily Michael got home shortly thereafter and he was able to hang out with Finn. After we painted, Mom cleaned my entire room. I had so much fun painting with Mom and I was pretty sad when she left. By the way, my room looks great! Thanks Mom! Because I spent most of the day painting I didn't get to spend a great deal of time with Finn. After mom left I rocked my baby for a long time trying to make up for his super boring day.

Birthday "Blowout"

Today I went to Nashville to visit my OB-GYN. While I was at the doctor's office Finn hung out with Aunt Em and Coop (see MJ's blog for details). Later that night mom, Greg, Em, Zac and Cooper came to celebrate my birthday. For my birthday dinner we went to Larriviere's. It was so much fun. The food was great and Finn slept the entire time. When we got back to my house we noticed that the front door was open and Kodiak was gone. Immediately we all went looking for him. Michael went down the street and scared a little kid to death, Zac and Greg went way back up in the neighborhood near the dumpster and I took the car. About the time I was pulling out of the driveway, MJ found Kodiak asleep under our next door neighbor's bushes. Next we opened presents. Mom and Greg got me a new bedspread, an ironing board cover, and a new pair of shoes. However, the best gift was that Mom stayed the night and helped me paint my bedroom. After cake and presents Finn got his first haircut....
