The Return of Scar Head

Image
This afternoon Finn went to Danny's to get his haircut. Before leaving I packed every "bribe" I could find in the bag - Veggie Tales snacks, Twizzlers, suckers, juice and an apple. Finn ate the apple in the car on the way. Finn did really well! If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. Once we got him in the chair I handed him an enormous sucker. He didn't cry, but wanted me to stand close and hold his hand. Now that his hair is really short again, you can see the scar from his surgery above both ears. I don't know if hair will ever grow over that scar. Once we got in the car Finn asked to "eat somepin" so we split a 99 cent nacho supreme at the Taco Bell. It was the first time Finn and I have ever eaten out alone. We had a great time. Finn ate a few chips with cheese and beans and loved every minute of it. He was smiley and quiet and so sweet. Next we went to the tire store to get my flat fix...

Finn Begley and the Case of the Lost Keys

Image
Today as we were about to go to the library, or as Finn calls it "lie-bray", I noticed that my keys were missing. I remembered that yesterday Michael drove my car home after changing my tire in the Kroger parking lot. I immediately called him at work at gave him a piece of my mind. After hanging up with still no answer as to the location of my keys I started tearing the house apart looking for them. Finn started to cry when I left him downstairs by himself to look for the key. After I came downstairs I asked Finn to help me find my keys (mostly just to keep him occupied). Without delay Finn walked right into the kitchen, shoved his hand into a JC Penney bag hanging on the kitchen chair and pulled out my keys. I couldn't believe it. Then it all came flooding back . . . yesterday, I saw Finn playing with my keys next to the bag. I couldn't believe that he remembered what he did with them. I then had to call Michael back and apologize. Next we went to t...

Cooking Dinner

Image
Oh, the things our children can teach us. Today when I put Finn in the carseat I asked Finn if Mama's car was fast. Finn responded, "mommy's car fast like daddy's car." Over the past couple of days Finn has been very vocal about how awesome he thinks daddy's car is. In case you forgot, Michael drives a 1996 Ford Explorer; and trust me this car has seen better days. However, Finn thinks daddy's car is the best car on the road. This got me to thinking about how thankful I am to have have Michael's car. It my not be a beauty, but it certainly gets the job done. And do we really need more than that? Tonight after getting home from the store Finn grabbed the grocery bag and started taking the groceries out. He told me that he was going to "cook dinner." He seemed so serious about it. I asked him what he was planning to cook, but he didn't seem interested in telling me. He played with the groceries almost the entire time ...

Ice Cream Truck

Today Finn bought ice cream from the Ice Cream Truck for the first time. Unfortunately, I missed it because I was working late. My heart hurts a little bit. He picked out a great big Jolly Rancher popsicle; the remnants of which I could still see on Finn's face even after a bath. Thankfully my sweet husband recorded it for me. I still don't know how to post the videos though. I didn't end up getting home until 7:15. The minute Finn heard my heels on the floor I heard him yell from upstairs "hear mommy." When I got upstairs Finn was lying on the floor getting a clean diaper after his bath. From his position on the floor he threw his arms up, grabbed the back of my head and hugged me. I felt so missed and so loved.

This has been an incredibly busy weekend for the Finnster and for his mama. On Friday Finn went to stay with his buddy JT while I went to do an emergency hearing in another county. When we got home on Friday his Gigi had come up to stay overnight with him while his mom and dad attended Midnight Train at church. Midnight Train is a really fun training session that the church does for all volunteers. We didn't get home until 11:30 so we didn't get to hand with Finn and Gigi at all. Gigi did tell me though that Finn had a grilled cheese for supper and that he did not want to go to bed. The next morning after telling Gigi goodbye Finn and I went to Micah's birthday party at the FBC playplace. There were about 20 other kids playing in the play area so Finn was pretty clingy to me. After lunch was provided for the Kiddos Finn, JT, Victoria and I took Finn back into the play area so that Finn could play in a less crowded environment. He was pretty interested in t...

The Never Ending Yak

Why is it that kids only throw up in the middle of the night???? On Monday right before Gran and Pa arrived Finn would hold his stomach, double over in pain and say "poo-poo." I absolutely panicked - I was sure Finn had a bowel obstruction and was a few short hours away from death (a little over dramatic). I immediately got online and started researching bowel obstructions; I learned that they are accompanied by vomitting. I felt a bit better because Finn didn't vomit all night. At a little after midnight I heard Finn gag over the baby monitor. When I went into his room I saw that his bed was covered in vomit. It smelled awful! He was still asleep and laying in it. It was the grossest thing ever. I grabbed him up and put him in the bathtub. Well at that point I was absolutely freaking out and called the on call pediatrician. The pediatrician told me that if the vomit isn't green he probably had a GI track infection and not to worry. After the bath Finn and I layed on ...

Twizzlers

Finn's new favorite seat. The other night he watched an entire Thomas sitting in this stroller. Today was a big day for Finn; his first time to stay with a babysitter. At 8:00 this morning Finn woke to find Monica in the house. She came to take care of Finn today while I worked for a few hours. I warned Monica that he would probably freak out when we left but luckily he made a liar out of me. When I got back home later that day Finn and Monica were watching Mickey Mouse and sitting together on the couch. When I told Finn that we were getting in the car (to take Monica home) he made sure that Monica was coming too. He talked about Monica the rest of the day. I know he had a fun time staying home with Monica today. After we dropped Monica off Finn took a two hour nap. When he woke up we read books and cleaned the house. At one point Finn found a Twizzler in the cabinet. He would walk right up to me, show me the Twizzler and say "Finn's. Later on in the evening Gran and Pa c...
