Inaugural Segment

Today Finn drank an unknown amount of hand sanitizer.  I can't imagine that he drank very much given that the stuff tastes terrible, but we monitored him nonetheless.  To be ultra cautious I used my limited knowledge of DUI law to give Finn a field sobriety test.  He walked the line and then did the touch your nose exercise.  He did not appear drunk all night so we decided not to worry about it too much.  We did, however, put the hand sanitizer out of reach. Finn also was able to spend some time with his Grandad.  Dad was working in town today and stopped by with some "Cars" stickers for Finn.  Finn, of course, was very excited. Finn also went outside today and let helium balloons go.  To me, the best part of getting a helium balloon was letting it go.  Finn enjoyed it, but it was so bright outside that it was hard to look up at the sky.  About two hours later he tried to show Grandad the balloons.  They were long gone b...

Bed Head

This is how Finn woke up from his nap yesterday.  Does the images of Ace Ventura or Conan O'Brien come to mind??? Friday was good day because all my boys were home.  Michael got back to the house around lunch time and we spent the day together.  Earlier in the day I put the boys in the den while I listened to my book in the kitchen while cooking and cleaning. Later that afternoon Sam and I took some food to some of our good friends.  I went in to put the food down and started talking (you know me).  I totally forgot that Sam was in the car.  I was probably only inside for about five (5) minutes, but I completely forgot about him.  I am a terrible mother.  And to make matters worse the District Attorney that is responsible for prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases lives right next door.  Luckily she wasn't anywhere to be found.  Also, it wasn't cold outside, the doors were locked, the car off and the emergency break wa...

Flat Top

Well,  I have been informed that the blog is a little "Finn heavy."  Meaning - I haven't blogged about Sam enough.  Guilty as charged.  However, in my defense Sam doesn't really do that much.  He sleeps most of the day.  When he is not sleeping (either cuddled up next to me or otherwise) he is eating or ramping up to through a huge tantrum.  While Sam is a great baby it doesn't take him long to work up to a terrible fit. He can literally be sound asleep one second and screaming his lungs out the next.  Last night after Sam's bath I decided that I would put a hat on his head.  I didn't have a comb handy so I flattened his hair out with my hands and stuck a hat on him.  When I took the hat off I saw that his hair was laid down!  I have posted a lot of pictures of Sam - mostly to show his new hair-do.  I had a lot of relaxing time with Sam last night. I held him for two hours while he cuddled up next to me and slept. H...

Best Valentine's Day to Date!

Image
Valentine's Day 2012 goes down in the books as the best Valentine's Day to date.  The day started with Finn coming down the stairs saying "Happy Valentine's Day, I love you."  After breakfast and diaper changes boys and I headed out to run our errands.  First we went to the Clerk's office to file some legal papers and then we went to Kroger to pick up a few things.  It is pretty complicated getting both boys out of the car without getting one squashed or run off.  I have to threaten Finn within an inch of his life to NOT take his hands off of the car while I get Sam out.  So far he has done pretty good. Today was the first time that Sam has smiled at me.  Perfect timing given that it is Valentine's Day.   I was holding him on the couch and I started rubbing his cheeks and he looked up and me and grinned from ear to ear.  I think that he was smiling because I tickled him, but I was thrilled nonetheless. Finn continued his tr...

Two Year Old's Are SO Precious

No new pictures for today - I am quickly falling into the "second child" rut.  I vow to do better.  I also don't have a lot to blog about with Sam.  He doesn't really do much - that is in comparison with Finn.  I have no idea how I carried a blog based on Finn alone when he was an infant.  Anyway, I have decided that two and a half is my favorite age.  The things that come out of Finn's mouth are so precious, sweet, funny and surprising.  I need to start carrying around a note pad with me so that I can write down all the "Finnisms."  This blog is dedicated to the "Finnisms" of the last few days. They aren't necessarily funny, but instead, just very sincere. 1. For some reason Finn has started sticking his hands in his diaper after a bowl movement. Yes, it is as gross as it sounds and no this is not the precious part.  After we clean up the hands then we start on the source (if you catch my drift).  Yesterday during dinner Finn came u...

Mixers and Toasters and Monkeys

Image
Today Nana came to visit.  The purpose of the visit was two fold - first to see the boys and second to give them their Valentine's Day presents. When she got there Finn was asleep so Nana held Sam while I opened his present.  It was a precious blue monkey sleeper with wrist rattles. A little while later I went upstairs to wake Finn up from his nap.  Before putting him to bed I told him that when he woke up Nana would be here.  The first thing he asked upon opening his eyes was "is Nana here?"  This one doesn't forget anything. After saying hello to Nana Finn went straight for his presents.  He got some Sesame Street "road", a toaster and a mixer for his kitchen.  Finn was excited about all of his presents but seriously loved that mixer. We put some water in the bowl and let him mix the water.  Then we put an egg in the bowl and let him mix that up as well.  Afterwards we put the egg in the microwave and Finn ate it for a snack.   ...

Like Mother Like Son

Its official - Finn is just like me.  The other day while watching "Cars 2" I started noticing that Finn hums along with the score through most of the movie.  Anytime there is soundtrack music he will sing.  I do the same thing.  I really hope that Finn and I can enjoy soundtrack music together. The last two days I have been home with both Finn and Sam.  Yesterday I had to take both boys out to the Kroger pharmacy.  We didn't get out of the car - we just went through the drive through.  Sam, of course, started screaming when prompted Finn to start yelling "STOP CRYING" at Sam.  All of this was happening while I was talking through the window to the pharmacist.  I finally asked Finn if he would sing Sam a song (I knew this wouldn't calm Sam, but wanted at least to stop one of the boys from yelling).  Finn, very sweetly, sang one stanza of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.  When Sam didn't stop crying Finn immediately stopped singing...
