Will and the Mystery Machine

Image
Will loves to go on walks with me. And I love to walk with him too. He holds my hand through the entire walk and talks the whole time. Usually it is just the two of us. This pandemic has given us many opportunities to take long walks together. On one of our earliest walks Will came upon a series of large yet rather shallow potholes. He stopped dead in his tracks and said “Mom! What big feet made these tracks?” I shrugged playfully. Will then exclaimed, “We have a mystery on our hands!” I just wanted to pick him up and squeeze him.  Through very careful observation, Will concluded that it had to be giant zombies. Logical. Case closed.

Please Don’t Take My Sunshine

This weekend, all three boys are spending the night with their grandparents. Several hours before they were scheduled to depart, Will and I were snuggling in my bed. I started singing silly songs to him which included “You Are My Sunshine.” When I got to the end - “please don’t take my sunshine away” - Will’s face went from happy to very serious and said “I’m sorry mom, but I have to go to Nana’s house.” It was so sincere - he really thought I was singing about him leaving.  He didn’t want me to be sad, but he was NOT missing a chance to visit Nana. Just precious.
