55 Dollars worth of Fun

Yesterday Finn and I went to spend the night with Nana and Papa. Emily, Coop and Hank spent the night too. Shortly after arriving we all went for dinner at Logan's Roadhouse. We were sat in a huge corner booth. Finn sat in between me and Papa. Finn was so excited about being at Nana and Papa's house that he could barely contain his excitement within the boundaries of the booth. From the time we sat down until the time our food came a whole hour had past. During that hour Finn did the following: eat a crayon, try to eat peanut hulls, threw peanuts over the booth at the neighboring table, spill his cup of water, pick up his empty cup and heave it at the next table, bounce up and down next to Papa, attempt to climb the wall behind us, and attempt to drink everyone else's drink at the table. Finn did take a few minutes from his exhausting routine to eat four (4) huge rolls. At one point he was double fisting. Halfway through his second roll he started asking for another one. I told him me couldn't have another roll until he had finished the one he was holding. Finn proceeds to shove the entire roll in his mouth. Cooper sat sweetly with his mother and then sat quitely in his highchair. Hank slept the whole time. Finn was well . . .

After our food came I took Finn outside to walk around. Papa relieved me a few minutes later. Once we got back to Nana and Papa's house, Finn and Papa went upstairs to play in the play room. They built a very elaborate tunnel and Finn pushed his "free ride" car through it. Once Cooper got their they played together for a few minutes and then Papa, Finn and Cooper read a book.

After we were finished playing upstairs, Finn decided that he was hungry again and ate a pop-tart. Then he sat in Greg lap until bedtime. Right before bed I felt "squirt the sequel" kick for the first time; and it wasn't just any kick, it was a kick that had feeling behind it. It was so hard that it shocked me a bit.

Finn and I went to bed around 10:00. After we were both tucked in and the lights were off, Finn looked over and me and "love you mommy." All was going well until 3:00 when Finn started banging his head into my stomach. He would sit straight up and then fall straight over. Then he started whining. Since he was up I went to to bathroom. Once I got back in bed, Finn started looking for me in bed. I could see him squinting and leaning to see me. He started saying "where's mommy, where's erin." I would touch his face and tell him that I was right next to him but he didn't seem to believe me. After about 45 minutes of squirming Finn finally feel asleep and slept until morning.

The next morning Finn and Cooper played with the car in the bathroom until breakfast. Of course Finn ate a pop-tart for breakfast. Then he sat with Nana and Cooper and watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

That was the end for me. I went to work while Mom, Em, Coop and Finn went to Tracey's house for the Second Annual "Redneck Pool Party." I was told that Finn loved the bouncy castle. After the party Emily brought all three boys home in her car. I saw the end product and it was a tight squeeze, but she did really great! Thanks Em and Mom for taking Finn to the party.

4 hours

All happened this past weekend, but I want to start with Finn's biggest achievement to date. On Sunday after church Finn took a four (4) hour nap! Unbelievable.

On Saturday Finn, Michael and I went to do our family grocery shopping. Finn has taken to wanting hugs while riding in the buggy. He will throw himself into my body and wrap his arms around my waist. It is so sweet; but I look seriously ridiculous half slumping over and pushing the buggy. Later on in the day I went to a huge consignment sale in Franklin with Mom and MJ. We had a great time. Later on in the night we (me, Michael and Finn) went to Greg and Shelley's house to watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Finn and Macey T. played all over the house while we watched. Finn did a pretty good playing with Macey. He just didn't want her to hug him. Around 10:00 (pm) Finn came over to where I was sitting and said "lay down." He would lay down in the floor next to me and hug my neck. He didn't end up going to sleep at Greg and Shelley's house, but he did behave quite nicely even though he was exhausted.

The next morning we went to church and then we got home Finn took his enormous nap. Afterwards Addison came over to swim in Finn's pool. During his bath I asked Finn who he loved and he said "Mommy Daddy" I asked him who else and he said "nana papa" on and on he went through everyone in his family. The last time I asked "who else" he said, "lawnmower." Not too far from the truth.

The next day (Monday) Finn was introduced to the weed eater. Of course he loved and wanted to help.

Upset because I won't let him follow Michael into the road.

In the Tent

Today Finn woke up at 8:00 - it was wonderful! When he finally did drag himself out of bed we went downstairs to eat breakfast. He asked for waffles and dip (which is syrup). After breakfast I set Finn's little tent; he played in the tent most of the day. He would bring books in to read and big trucks into play with. Since Finn spent most of his day in the tent I ended up spending half of my day in the tent. He would say "mama in tent." He would get so excited when I got in.

For lunch we met a very special friend from church at Cheddars for a little lunch. Finn emptied all the sugar packets and then took to pour pepper on my shoulder. After lunch Finn took a two hour nap while I caught up on some work.

After he got up we played in the tent someone and then we went to the Post Office. When went in a diaper and a t-shirt and crocs. He looked so cute waddling around with that little diaper sticking out.

By the time we got home it was almost time for Michael to be home from work. Finn and Michael played in the tent while I talked to Deanna (who is in for a wedding). A little later Gran stopped by to say hi to Finn and tie our tree up. Michael and Finn watered the yard while I prepared dinner. Finn ate mac-n-cheese for dinner and then happily went to bed a little after 8:00.

TV Off

This morning after breakfast I was sitting on the couch, drinking a cup of coffee and watching a special on the new Harry Potter movie. Finn was sitting in the floor playing with his toys. After a few minutes he looked up at me and very seriously said, "Mama, TV off!" I immediately turned the TV off. Finn then looked at me and said "mama, play puzzles." I immediately got in the floor and Finn and I started playing puzzles. I was both tickled with Finn and a little embarrassed at the same time.

Around 12:00 Finn took a three hour nap. At the same time I took a two hour nap and then finished the rest of my Harry Potter book. After Finn woke up from his nap we blew up his new swimming pool and we spent the next two and half hours outside. Finn liked the pool a lot until we attached the water slide. He liked the slide somewhat, but did not like water sprinkling on him. After we had been out for while Gran and Pa stopped by. Pa came by to tell us all goodbye; he left today for a job in Mississippi. Gran stayed at the house and helped Finn water the plants.

Gran's Birthday

Friday morning Finn and I went to town to run errands. After his nap we stopped a Mr. Oliver's office to pick up some mail and chat for a few hours. Mr. Oliver wanted to hold Finn so badly but he wasn't about to be held. Instead he played nicely around Mr. Oliver's office. After we left I picked Finn up a grilled cheese and then we headed back to the house. After getting back from our visit Finn helped me make Gran's birthday cake. I made Aunt Tracey's special strawberry jello cake. Finn didn't physi.cally help but reminded me about the cake all day. Every so often he would come up to me and say "Dan's birday cake."

Later on that evening we met Gran, Pa, Mimi, James and Chelsea at Cheddars for Gran's birthday dinner. It was around 7:30 when we got there so Finn was starting to get tired. I don't think he stayed in one place longer than 10 seconds all night. At different times during the dinner we would take turns taking Finn to see the fish tank or walk around outside. When the spinach artichoke came Finn inhaled. For dinner Finn ate a few french fries and then he finished it off with cake.

After leaving the restaurant Finn went back to our house with Gran and Pa while Michael, James, Chelsea and I went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. All I have to say is WOW!

Day 4: On the Road Again

Well Tuesday was our last day at the Beach. I woke up around 7:30 to an empty house. When I say empty I mean no Finn, Grandad or Gigi. Everyone else was asleep. I quickly ate breakfast and then got ready to go down to the beach. Gina ended up coming back while I was packing up and we walked down together.

Finn was fussier than normal while on the beach this morning. He was so preoccupied with protecting his toys from the tide that he couldn't enjoy himself. After about an hour he asked to go to the pool.

We had a nice time at the pool until Finn started getting fussy around 11:00. Michael and I took him back up to the room and put him to bed. He slept for almost 3 hours; one more reason I love being at the beach. While Finn was snoozing Michael and I snuggled on the couch and watched Inception.

After Finn woke up we made a "not so quick" trip to Sonic and then back to the pool. Finn played with his school bus in the water with Grandad and Daddy and then we all dried off and went to the room. The Begley clan all took showers and then I started dinner. While I was getting Dinner ready Grandad and Gigi went to the store. Upon their return I learned that they didn't actually make to the store but instead stopped to have a shirt made for Finn. It was a airbrush shirt with a train on it that had Finn's name and Panama City Beach, 2011. It was so cute.

After dinner Finn played with Grandad and Gigi while Michael and I packed the car. After everything was packed and ready to go we said our goodbyes. In true fashion, I cried after leaving; so did Finn. He was not happy about leaving Grandad and Gigi.

It was about 7:45 when we hit the road. We decided to travel at night so as to allow Finn to sleep as much as possible. We had everything all ready to promote a serene sleeping environment; his star turtle, his blanket and his big blanket. He listened to Chess for about an hour and then we drifted off to sleep around 9:00. At 11:00 Finn woke up after I had to make a quick stop. He did not go back to sleep easily. It was probably midnight before he managed to whine himself back to sleep. Before falling to sleep he asked me to hold his hand (hold-a-hand, Mommy). It was just too sweet and I had to give in.

At 2:00ish Michael stopped at a Pilot in Giles County for some gas. Finn was so funny walking into the gas station. He was still partially sleep but still able to walk. His little legs wabbled all over the place. Once inside he decided that he wanted a cookie. Like all good parents we bought Finn a cookie and let him eat it in the car.

After finishing his cookie Finn fell asleep and slept until we pulled in the driveway. We carefully got him out of the car and put him in his bed. Thankfully he slept soundly until 8:00 the next morning.

When we got home we noticed that someone had broken into our house and cleaned it from top to bottom. Thank you so much Gran and Pa - it made coming home considerably easier.

The trip was absolutely wonderful. I couldn't have imagined a better trip to the beach with the Finnster. Thank you Grandad and Gigi for giving us this opportunity. Finn had so much fun I have so much many great memories and pictures (thanks Gigi). And thank you to Lauren and Maria for allowing us to share your room and for not getting made when Finn woke up up at 6:30 in the morning running around like a maniac.

Day 3

Today started much like yesterday; at the beach by 8:00 and at the pool by 9:00. The weather was fairly ominous today and for some reason Finn was really nervous at the beach. He played for a while with his toys and then he asked me to dig another hole. He did get in the ocean and play in the waves for a while, except this time he wanted to actually want to stand up on his own.

The time in the water was short lived; Finn caught a glimpse of his toys on the beach and got very nervous that something would happen to them.

After about an hour Finn started saying "pool" so we headed on up to the pool. At the pool we played in the water with Grandad, Gigi and Daddy.

By 11:00 Finn was exhausted so we took him back to the room and put him down for a nap. He only slept about an hour and then he was up for the day. I tried to get him to go back to sleep by taking him in to my room and watching Veggie Tales on the laptop. Good idea, but it didn't work; I ended up falling asleep and Finn ended up messing with the computer.

It was very rainy today so we never ended up going back outside. Instead, later in the day we went to Margaritaville for a "Cheeseburger in Paradise."

In the waiting area at Margaritaville.

I was worried that Finn would ruin everyone's dinner, but he was as good as gold. There was hardly a wait and our food came very quickly. During dinner a plane hanging directly overhead opened up and a disco ball with a salt shaker came down over our table. Finn was fascinated, he commented on that plane for the remainder of the dinner. The only time I thought Finn would misbehave was when our server would get right in his face and talk to him in a pirate voice; I think he thought she was crazy.

Over-sized chair.

After dinner I bought Finn a Christmas ornament (a glass sea turtle) and then we walked down to a little carnival area where Finn had his picture taken in front of a pirate ship.

Next we rode the train with Daddy. He loved that train!

And last he rode on the carousel with Grandad and Gigi.

It was a really fun and memorable night. Unfortunately I really wasn't able to commemorate the night because the battery on my camera was dying and I barely was able to get the shots that I ended up with.

Day 2

Well today Finn woke up with Grandad at 5:30. I didn't get up until 6:30. By 8:00 we were all on the beach. Finn left a few minutes earlier with Grandad and Gigi and Michael and I took the sky walk over to the other side of the resort where we found the best pool ever. I had no idea this pool was here - it was quite a find.

The seaweed on the beach was much better today. Finn still was not really keen on getting in the water but had a ball playing in the sand. Today he played with his rake, shovel, bucket and sand castle toys (shaped like a train and a boat). First he and daddy made sand shapes. Then we dug a big hole. Finn enjoyed the hole! He would help me scoop out sand and then we would put his feet in it. He really enjoyed when Grandad started filling the hole up with water! Around 9:00 we went to big pool where Finn jumped off the side to to me (without me holding his hands) for the first time. He also paddled around in his boat for a few minutes. I am so happy that Finn loves the water so much. I really do think he is ready to swim. I know he isn't old enough to swim, but he really wanted for me to let go of him so that he could swim to his daddy. While we were swimming Grandad took Finn over the waterfall in the middle of the pool. Finn was not fond of the waterfall - he was desperately trying to climb over Dad to get to get away. He also let us dunk him under the water today. When we came back up out of the water he would say "wipey eyes" but he didn't cry.

Around 10:30 we were all starving so we walked around the the pool area to dry off and then went back to the room. A big golf cart drove us over the sky bridge and back to the room.

Finn hasn't been that excited about eating these last few days so after only a few bites of his sandwich Finn asked to watch VeggieTales. After only a few songs we looked and saw that Finn was sound asleep sitting up but slouched over. We moved him to his bed and he slept for a little over two hours. While Finn was asleep I went back out to the pool for a few minutes.

After retiring from the sun for the day Gina and I went to by shrimp for dinner. Once back at the condo we boiled the shrimp and ate. After dinner Michael, Finn and I played golf outside the room. Michael would hit the ball and Finn would go get them. He also enjoyed running up the big, tall mounds. We ended up hitting the ball around for about an hour and half. Then we gave Finn a bath. During his bath Finn started crying and saying cement truck over and over again. We attempted to take the cement truck away from him and he would cry harder. After a few minutes we finally noticed that Finn's thumb was stuck in the truck. No matter how hard we pulled we couldn't get that truck off of his thumb. Finally we ended up cutting it off.

By 8:00 Finn was exhausted and went to bed without a hitch. Thankfully he slept the whole night.
