Grandparent's Day 2016 (Sam)

Image
Friday was Grandparent's Day at HCA.  While I could not attend, I knew in advance that the theme was superheros.  Sam was so pumped to wear his Superman t-shirt.   The night before, Shelley, Matt, Jack and John Matthew came over for dinner.  The boys ran around like hooligans while we visited.  Dad arrived around 8:00 and had some dessert with us.   The next morning I got Sam ready and then headed to work. The program went on without me at 9:00.  I love this picture of Sam After the program was over, the boys went home with Nana to prepare for Hank's Birthday campout.

The Big Bath Tub

Well, I made a huge mistake letting the boys take a bath in my bathtub - now that's all they want to do. It is so big that Sam can swim under water.  At one point Sam dove head first into the water and banged his head on the side of the tub. The boys seem to have adjusted pretty well to the new place.  They are still a little keyed up, but I expect that will simmer down after a while.   I thought it might take a little longer for Finn to warm up to the place because he was pretty sad when we left the old house.  Before leaving for the last time the four of us gathered around my car and said a prayer - thanking God for our first home.  Finn and I cried on the way out.  Finn tried to hold it back, but couldn't stop the tears.   Finn told me that he didn't want to leave because we had so many good memories at that house.   Sam responded, "I want to go to my new house."  You can always count on Sam to be sentimental.

Mowing

This weekend was fairly busy.  Friday night we went to see the "Jungle Book" with Jack, John Matthew, Shelley, Matt and Gran.  First we stopped at Zaxby's for dinner.  The movie was pretty good.  Sam got a little nervous during a few of the fight scenes and spent most of the movie in my lap.  Finn also got a little nervous and spent the last third of the movie in Michael's lap. On Saturday the boys went to Aunt Nellie's 99th birthday party while I went to Manchester to drop off a table at mom's house.  Then I traveled to Shelbyville to pick up a few end tables for my bedroom that I had found on "Varage Sale."  I didn't make it home until 4:00. When I got home Michael went out to mow.  He bought a riding lawn mower from James to make the mowing a little more manageable. The boys LOVE the mower.  They both like to drive it and Finn loves to chase it around the yard.  While they were mowing I decided to tackle the playroom.  While ...

The Big Move!

Image
On Wednesday, April 6th we closed on both our old house and our new house.  Michael and I dropped the boys off at school and then went to read our F260 Bible reading plan at McDonald's (we both really like McDonald's coffee). At 9:30 we went to the office.  First we closed on our old house, then we closed on the new one.  Present for our closing was Kevin, the loan officer; and Brian, our buyer's agent. We finished up a little before 11:00 and decided to go eat at Five Guys.  Next we went back to our house to change clothes and start the actual moving process. I had been packing for three (3) weeks, but we still had a few things left to do.   The movers arrived around 12:00 and started loading up the house.  I made a few trips to the Goodwill and then to Sonic.   At 5:00 I met Mom and the new house.  She had come up to clean the house.  Before getting started we met up with Emily (who also came to help) and ate a quick sandwi...

The United States Presidents

This week while driving in the car, Finn told me that George Washington was the first president of the United States.  I asked him if he knew the second?  He thought about it for a second and said, "John Adams."   Given that we have been listening fairly consistently to "Hamilton" the musical, I wasn't surprised that Finn knew that Thomas Jefferson was the third and James Madison was the fourth.  Then Finn said, "Monroe, Adams, Jackson, Van Buren, Harrison . . . " And on and on he went.  Much to my amazement, Finn can name all 44 Presidents in order.
