Pumpkin Treat

Tonight is Halloween.  We have worried about this particular evening for two (2) days.  We kept hearing weather reports saying that tornadoes were coming through and it was going to pour.  Originally we thought that we might postpone our trick-r-treating until tomorrow night.  However, at 3:30 today we decided to bite the bullet and go rain or shine.

In preparation for Halloween we carved pumpkins.  Finn decided on a bat pumpkin.  The boys were really interested in helping Michael clean out the pumpkin but had absolutely no interest in helping me carve.

Sam had Olive Garden soup for dinner.  Just to clear up that the gunk on his face is not pumpkin waste.

The finished product.

This morning Finn woke up ready to trick-r-treat.  He was pretty disappointed when I told him that he had to go to school first. Sam was kind of beast this morning too.  He most definitely woke up on the wrong side of the crib.  Perhaps he was just mad at his parents for making him breakfast on the kitchen floor.

As it turns out on Halloween 2011 Finn ate breakfast on the kitchen floor too.

I picked Finn up from school at 3:30 and then went to get Sam.  When we got home I put green hair color in Finn's hair.  Before going to get Sam we (Finn and I) stopped at the Walgreens to pick up another bag of candy.  While I was shopping Finn spotted the spray-in hair dye.  I thought it looked pretty neat so I bought some.  After Michael got home from work we put the boys in their costumes.  Finn was a ninja turtle.

Sam went as the grumpiest train on the rails.  Sam hated that costume. Perhaps we was mad at his parents for making him wear Finn's old Halloween costume.  Sam didn't wear the costume very long.  We maybe made it to three houses before we took it off of him.

Finn:  Halloween 2011

Next Gran came and gave the boys their Halloween surprises.

We had lots of friends and family join us for trick-r-treating:  Gran, Aunt Chelsea, Aunt Sharon, Matthew, Stephanie and Parker.  Once we were all dressed and ready to go it was time for a few commemorative pictures.

A few pictures of me and Michael trying to make Sam happy.  We spent most of our night trying to make Sam happy.

Sam loved this pumpkin.  At first he wouldn't let anyone hold it.  Later in the evening he only trusted Chechy (Aunt Chelsea) to hold it.
A little after dark we set off for trick-r-treating.  Our neighborhood decided to trick-r-treat on both Thursday and Friday nights due to the weather.  Well, I am happy to say that 6:30 it wasn't raining or storming, the weather was mild and there was a nice breeze.  It really was a perfect evening.  There weren't a lot kids out, but there were plenty of homes handing out candy. Finn got the jist of it real quick.  We strolled right up to the homes that had the porch light on and knocked.  If someone didn't open the door immediately we leaned in close and said pretty loudly "is anybody in there?"

Despite Sam's foul mood he seemed to have a fairly good time.  He enjoyed getting candy but didn't want to walk so I held him most of the time. When he wanted to be held he would look up at me and say, "I hold you."  (This is how Sam says 'hold me'). Sam also didn't quite catch on the phrase "trick-r-treat."  Instead, when the doors would open Sam said, "pumpkin treat."    We made a big loop around the back of our subdivision and collected tons of candy.

At one house there was a blow-up gargoyle.  The boys and I called it the scary monster.  I told Finn to walk up to get a closer look.  As he was closing in I grabbed him from the back and yelled.  It scared him to death.  He was pretty mad at me for a few minutes.

It was a really fun night.  I am so glad that we decided to go ahead and trick-r-treat tonight.  Now tomorrow Finn can help hand out candy to the 90% of the other families in the neighborhood that decided to wait.
