MLK Day

Over this holiday weekend fives years ago Michael and I took a trip to Chicago. We had a great time in Chicago - we did all the touristy things. We we visited the ESPN Zone, we walked the Magnificent Mile, and we visited the Sears Tower. The trip to the Sears Tower was quite an adventure. We walked almost two miles in single digit temperatures. I have never been so cold in my whole life! In fact, it was so cold our faces froze up and we could hardly talk to each other. Every few blocks we would duck into a novelty store to warm up. After arriving the Sears Tower we had to go through the metal detectors. I went through without a problem, but Michael set the detector off. Michael told me to go wait over by the elevators while he emptied his pockets for the security guard. As it turns out Michael had an engagement ring in his pocket - it was the ring that set the detector off. When we got to top of the Tower Michael proposed. A family standing nearby saw what was happening and clapped for us. Before leaving the Tower, Michael bought me a Christmas ornament at the gift shop. Then we went to the Cheesecake factory for dinner and cheesecake of course. It was perfect day.

Several years later Michael and I returned to Chicago. We were very excited to return to Chicago because we had such a good time the last we went. I loosely think of Chicago as "our city." This trip to Chicago was very different because I was six months pregnant with Finn. The purpose for the trip was to visit the Harry Potter Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry (which was great). Later that night we went to the ESPN Zone for dinner and watched one of the playoff games. The next morning we took the "L" to Wrigley Field. We didn't get to the watch the game because we didn't have tickets, but we had a good time walking around the area. Once we got back to the hotel Michael surprised me by purchasing a special pregnancy massage for me at the hotel spa. That night we went to a very touristy pizza place for some authentic Chicago style pizza. After dinner we spent the evening walking through the city. On our last day in Chicago we visited the Field Museum of Natural History. Then we took the train back to the airport and flew home.

I realize that his post doesn't have a whole lot to do with Finn. But since Finn really didn't do anything "blog worthy" today, I decided to take the opportunity to blog about our engagement story. After all, it is MLK weekend.
